Devotion

An abridged story, in three parts:

What was first said:
"I like taking care of you. Let me."

So I did.

What was said later:
"I feel terribly guilty. This has to end."

So it did.

What could have been said somewhere in between:
"I don't love you as much as you love me yet. It's causing unrest."

But the phenomenon was not well-understood. So it was underestimated and mishandled.

So that's that. No more. Adieu. Bingley, I am not. May we learn not to repeat our past errs again.

Upon reflection, I realize that the in-between line actually was said...but in a fashion that made it hard to understand.
